Shape Up and Slim Down in September

It happens! Due to all the fun things you do over the summer like barbecues, picnics, kids events, family events, in addition to your job, you get off your usual weight management program. I know, it happened to me.

My son is a pretty good baseball player. He played on three teams this past summer (60+ games). We had up to 7 games in a Friday-Sunday weekend. (I coached two of the teams and was the scorer for the other) It doesn’t leave a lot of time to get to the gym. Eating out becomes the usual, rather than the exception. You miss a couple of workouts. All of a sudden, SHAZAM! Your clothes start getting tighter. Those favorite white pants that you wore last summer don’t quite fit as well. Then one day you decide to check your weight. Uh Oh! A new record high.

Well friends, summer is over it is time to get back to it.

Tuesday, I started Ideal Protein in the office. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a scientific, super easy and effective program to lose weight. The program is based on keeping insulin under control. As you already probably know, insulin is released by the body after you eat or drink to get your glucose in your cells to make them go. Unfortunately, it is also the hormone that gets your body to store fat. Insulin is secreted primarily when you eat carbohydrates. It is especially quickly and efficiently secreted when you eat simple carbohydrates, such as breads, pasta, potatoes, fruit, soda, juice and sweets.

The hormone that gets your body to release fat is called glucagon. Glucagon tells your fat cells to release stored fat to make energy. Glucagon is secreted when you eat protein. To lose weight you need to increase the glucagon and decrease the insulin. Ideal Protein foods do this for you in a highly effective fashion and TASTE GOOD.

Our success stories with the program are remarkable.

My own story is one of those. Before we started doing the program in our office, I tried it. A couple of years ago, I hurt my knee skiing. I took a month off from working out to let my knee rest and heal. I gained 7 pounds in one month. That crept up to 10 pounds in the ensuing months. After trying to lose the weight working out, I never was quite able to get back to my usual 170 pounds. Doing the program, I lost 15 pound in three weeks. After the first couple of days, I was never hungry and the weight dropped off effortlessly. WOW that was easy. No exercise.

Fast forward 18 months to this summer and my weight went up to 187. A new record. Ugh. Back to work. Come my friends wedding at the end of the month, I will be back to 170 lbs. Comforting to know with certainty, I am going to be back at my normal weight.
